We women almost all wear a bra, or have worn one in the past. But what was it like in the past, and what is the history of the bra? Read along in our new blog.
The bra originated in the 19th century (in the West). Before that, many women wore corsets. A corset is designed to fit close to the skin, helping to make the waist appear smaller and partially supporting the breasts. These were worn under dresses or gowns. 
The bra gradually became a separate garment. In the early 1990s, it became increasingly popular. The corset disappeared, partly because of the outbreak of the First World War. Now, you're probably wondering, what does this have to do with the First World War? There was a shortage of ammunition and steel. This was used to line a corset. Because of this, people at the time asked not to wear corsets.
In 1932, an American manufacturer designed the modern bra with cup sizes A, B, C, and D. These provided support for the breasts. Adjustable straps, all features, and larger sizes quickly appeared. They quickly hit the shelves. After World War II, underwired, padded, and strapless bras became available.
